By equipping the lower-performing panels (due to shade) with an optimiser, the yield is purposefully increased at relatively low cost. This partially optimises the system in combination with a string inverter. By adding these optimisers, the non-optimised panels no longer suffer from the shaded panels. To make use of the monitoring and safety function, several products need to be purchased.
